Grand Jury Opts For Lesser Charge In Amoroso Accident

The man whose car slammed into two bicyclists earlier this summer killing East Baton Rouge Metro Councilman Buddy Amoroso won't be facing the more serious charge of negligent homicide.

Instead, a grand jury in St. Francisville has opted to indict 21-year-old Nicholas Alexander for the reckless operation of a vehicle.

State police say Alexander was driving east on LA 66 in June when he failed to reduce his speed and move over.  It was then that the bikes of Amoroso and a fellow rider were hit from behind, the other man surviving his injuries.
