BREAKING - Houston Officer Shot Overnight, Currently Recovering In Hospital

We need some prayer warriors right now for this local hero who was shot last night.

One of the thugs responsible for this is currently on the run.

Cory McCord reports:

A Houston police officer was shot, one carjacking suspect is dead, two other suspects were apprehended and another is on the run after a Thursday-night crime spree in Houston's South Side, according to Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner was present at a news conference that was provided around 12:20 a.m. Friday and asked the city to come together in wake of the incident.
Acevedo said the officer was shot in the 3900 block of Tristan Street around 10:35 p.m. The shooting scene was near the intersection of Scott Street and Old Spanish Trail. The officer is a five-year veteran of HPD and Acevedo said he knows the officer's father, who is a 42-year-old veteran of the Department. At the time of the news conference, Acevedo said the officer was in surgery and his condition would not be released at the time. Acevedo said he spoke to the wounded officer before he went to the hospital.
Acevedo said the incident started when a man was carjacked at a Valero gas station at 5820 Scott Street around 9:55 p.m. He said the carjacking victim was at the gas station because his SUV was low on gas when four men approached him at gunpoint and stole his vehicle.
Acevedo said the vehicle ran out of gas a short time later and the four men fled on foot in the 6200 block of Tierwester Street. Acevedo said officers arrived at this scene about six minutes after the carjacking call.
Acevedo said after the suspects ditched the SUV, they assaulted a priest and stole his phone at about 10:10 p.m. He said the suspects pulled a gun on the priest and tried to fire twice, but no bullets discharged.
At about 10:21 p.m., Acevedo said officers spotted the suspects in a nearby shopping center. Acevedo said one suspect was taken into custody about five minutes later.
At about the same time, Acevedo said another suspect was spotted near the intersection of Triston and Scott. When officers arrived at this scene, Acevedo said gunfire was exchanged.
The five-year veteran was struck three times, twice in the upper body and once in the lower body, Acevedo said.
The suspect was shot and killed in the exchange of gunfire. Acevedo said he was unsure if one or two officers fired at the suspect.
Acevedo said another update was planned for 10 a.m. Friday, Acevedo said.
Acevedo said another suspect was taken into custody and police are actively searching for another person who is believed to be involved in the incident.
Acevedo made reference to a 15-year-old who was in need of "prayers" but didn't give a reason why.
