East Baton Rouge Parish officials are trying to get ahold of $125 million in federal funding for crime-fighting purposes.
The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council is applying for one of only four federal Model Cities Initiative Grants being offered through the Justice Department.
The deadline for the application is this week.
The council is requesting $125 million that would be paid out over three years. Potential uses for the funds include police overtime, equipment, and special crime-fighting initiatives.
