A New York judge agreed to push back the sentencing hearing for Donald Trump's conviction in the "hush money" trial. Trump was scheduled to be sentenced on September 18, but Judge Juan Merchan moved the date to November 26.
"This is not a decision this Court makes lightly but it is the decision which in this Court's view, best advances the interests of justice," Merchan wrote in his decision, which was released on Friday (September 6).
"Adjourning decision on the motion and sentencing, if such is required, should dispel any suggestion that the Court will have issued any decision or imposed sentence either to give an advantage to, or to create a disadvantage for, any political party and or any candidate for any office," Merchan explained.
Trump was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments to cover up an alleged affair between Trump and adult film star Stormy Daniels.
Merchan also said he will push his decision on whether to vacate the verdict due to the Supreme Court's ruling on presidential immunity until November 12.
