Louisiana's Last Pearl Harbor Survivor Dies

Louisiana's last Pearl Harbor survivor has died.

Joe Richard passed away at his home in Sunset, surrounded by relatives.

Richard was 18 years old when Japanese fighter planes attacked the U.S. Navy base in December, 1941, killing more than 2,000 Americans.

Richard was aboard the U.S.S. Rigel, which was hit by a bomb that failed to explode.

After returning home to Sunset, Richard worked as a welder for 50 years.

His 100th birthday was two months ago.
