Casey White, the Alabama inmate who escaped with the help of a female corrections officer, will spend the rest of his life behind bars. The 39-year-old agreed to plead guilty to charges of escape in exchange for prosecutors dropping the felony murder charges against him.

White was serving a 75-year prison sentence at the Lauderdale County Detention Center when he met Vicky White, the assistant director of corrections at the facility. The two were not related.

The pair became involved in a secret romantic relationship, and in April 2022, Vicky helped Casey escape from prison. The two spent 11 days on the run before they were cornered by law enforcement in Evansville, Indiana. Instead of facing arrest, Vicky shot herself in the head. Casey, who previously suggested he wanted to die in a shootout with police, surrendered peacefully.

Casey White is also facing trial for murder related to the 2015 slaying of Connie Ridgeway. That trial is scheduled to begin on August 14. Casey, who confessed to the killing, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
