Trial Challenging Incorporation Of City Of St. George Starts Today

The trial to challenge the incorporation of the City of St. George starts this morning in the 19th Judicial District Courthouse.

In October 2019, more than half of the local voters chose to establish the city in the unincorporated southern part of East Baton Rouge Parish, resulting in legal challenges.

Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome and Mayor Pro Tem Lamont Cole are the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which is expected to last about a week.

If it prevails, St. George will be the fifth-largest city in Louisiana.
