Baton Rouge police are warning the people who are stealing Walmart shopping carts to knock it off.

Hundreds of carts have been swiped from the Walmart Supercenter on Sullivan and Wax Road in recent months.

The thieves abandon the carts in other parking lots, in ditches, in the woods, and on private property. Walmart employees have to use their own cars to round up the carts.

Police Chief Roger Corcoran reminds people that stealing a shopping cart is a misdemeanor that could mean six-months in prison, a $100 fine, or both.
