National Weather Service Upgrades Hurricane Zeta To Category 3 Storm

The National Weather Service is upgrading last year's Hurricane Zeta from a category 2 hurricane to a category 3.

On Tuesday, the NWS said it had reexamined data from the storm and determined it had winds at 115 miles per hour at landfall last October.

"However, these Category 3 sustained winds were likely experienced over only a very small area at and near the coast near the landfall location, and this change in the estimated landfall intensity is of little practical significance in terms of the impacts associated with the storm there," read part of the report.

Zeta was part of a record-breaking hurricane season with 30 named storms and 13 hurricanes.

Officials say Zeta was responsible for five deaths and over $4 billion in damage.
