The East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Council is moving to rename street names that honor Confederate soldiers.

Parish officials announced that they may create its own commission to change street names that recognize historically racist individuals.

A public hearing and council consideration for the eight-member committee is set for Wednesday

The idea comes after New Orleans created its own commission to remove the names of former slave owners and Confederate leaders from schools and street names.
