Officials are prohibiting bars in Ascension Parish from on-premises consumption of alcohol due to a new spike in COVID-19 cases.

Health Department officials said yesterday that positivity rates in Ascension Parish had risen over 10% for two consecutive weeks, and under the state's Phase Three guidelines, bars must shut down to in-house service.

Businesses will need to pause on-premise drinking until rates fall to around 5%.

Bars will still be able to offer curbside, drive-thru, and take-out options during the shutdown.
