Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards is suing the legislature in order to defend COVID-19 safety rules.

A judge will decide whether residents have to continue following the coronavirus mitigation measures Edwards implemented through an executive order.

On the last day of the fall special session, lawmakers sent a petition to Gov. Edwards instructing him to sign a new executive order that lifts all COVID-19 restrictions for a week.

The law that allows the legislature to do this says the governor has to comply. Edwards is arguing the law is unconstitutional and is ignoring the petition.
