NHC Continues To Watch Western Caribbean For Tropical Activity

The National Hurricane Center continues to watch the western Caribbean as a possible hotspot for tropical development by the weekend.

A tropical wave is moving westwards towards the cold front that passed through our area recently. The NHC says the interaction between the two is expected to create a broad area of low pressure by Friday, and conditions are expected to be favorable for a tropical depression to form over the weekend.

The system would then drift slowly west-northwestward over the northwestern Caribbean Sea. Whether or not it would impact the Gulf Coast is unknown at this time. For now, it's something to watch and keep an eye on.

Gamma would be the next Greek letter to be used if the system gets a name.

The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30.
