10 PM Sunday: Cristobal Begins To Weaken

Tropical Storm Cristobal started to weaken Sunday night with its max winds falling to 45 miles per hour hours after landfall.

The system had also shifted direction as expected to the north-northwest, moving at 10 miles per hour.

The NHC expects Cristobal will weaken into a tropical depression by Monday morning.

"Although Cristobal has begun weakening, tropical-storm-force winds and life-threatening storm surge is expected to continue over a portion of the northern Gulf coast overnight. Heavy rains associated with the system will also spread over portions of the central United States over the next couple of days," said the National Hurricane Center in its 10 p.m. advisory.
