A former LSU student at the center of a deadly hazing incident back in 2017 is now a free man.

The Department of Corrections told reporters yesterday that Matthew Naquin was released from prison Tuesday morning just months after he was sentenced.

According to court documents, Naquin was convicted of negligent homicide last year for the death of Max Gruver, who died after a hazing ritual in September 2017.

In November, he was sentenced to five years in prison with half his sentence suspended and began serving his time in January.

Naquin is slated to be under probation for three years after his release.
