East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome signed a parish-wide emergency declaration Saturday afternoon in connnection with the coronavirus threat.

While the parish has not reported any cases of coronavirus, Broome says the move aligns East Baton Rouge with federal and state disaster declarations, allowing the parish to request additional assistance as needed.

The declaration also triggers possible FEMA payments for some of the costs associated with areas like overtime, protective equipment and emergency mass care.
