The state of Louisiana says it will contribute nearly $50 million to help LSU revitalize the lakes around its campus.

Governor Edwards said yesterday the money would come from the University, the LSU Athletics Foundation, and the Department of Transportation and Development.

The project will dredge and deepen the lakes to help combat algae levels while adding bike paths for recreational use.

Officials say they hope to begin working on the lakes sometime in the first half of 2020.
