Results from a new national study have found Louisiana to be the fourth most dangerous state in the nation for pedestrians.

The report used a "pedestrian danger index" to measure the number of people who were hit and killed while walking.

Between 2008 and 2017, 1,047 pedestrians were fatally hit by cars across the state, which is a nearly 4% increase over the last decade.

According to the results, Monroe was the most dangerous area within the state with the Houma-Thibodaux area coming in second.
