A new study says Louisiana is first in the nation for murder rates when compared to other states.

According to SafeWise, Louisiana has about eleven murders per every 100,000 people.

That's far above the national average of about five murders for every 100,000 people.

Across the state, the New Orleans-Metairie area topped the list with 17.6 murders per every 100,000 people, followed by Baton Rouge with 11.6.

The data was pulled from FBI statistics between 2013 and 2017.
