Governor John Bel Edwards says it's "more likely than not that the Morganza Spillway will be opened."

Officials are reportedly planning on opening the spillway on June 2nd.

Edwards said in a statement yesterday that "the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will make the final decision based on science and data." That decision is expected on May 28th.

On Wednesday, the Corps said persistent high water on the Mississippi River may force them to open the Morganza spillway. It's only been opened three times since its inception in 1954.
