The Justice Department says a Baton Rouge doctor has been sentenced to prison for Medicare fraud.

Yesterday, the DOJ said 66-year-old Dr. John Eastham Clark was sentenced to 37 months in prison and ordered to pay over 250-thousand dollars in restitution.

Clark reportedly submitted fraudulent claims to Medicare and other health insurers as the medical director of Louisiana Spine & Sports clinic.

Clark admitted to a practice called "unbundling," which is when a provider's profits are illegally increased by billing bundled procedures separately, prompting a higher reimbursement from Medicare.
