Bill Proposes Tax Exemption For Diapers, Feminine Hygiene Products

A bill is advancing in the state legislature that would allow voters to decide if purchases of diapers and feminine hygiene products should be exempt from the state's sales tax.

The measure, authored by Democratic Senator J.P. Morrell of New Orleans, cleared the Senate Committee on Revenue and Fiscal Affairs yesterday.

If the exemption were eventually approved at the ballot box, the state would lose about $10 million in revenue annually.
