State Lawmakers Have More Money To Play With

Income predictions for the state are swinging higher, giving the governor and legislature more economic room to maneuver when it comes to state spending.

The Revenue Estimating Conference on Wednesday agreed to recognize that Louisiana can expect an additional $110 million to flow into the state's coffers by June 30th, the end of the current fiscal year.

Though the revenue picture is not bright enough to finance all of Governor Edwards' proposed budget, a teacher pay hike of $1,000 is believed to be better situated with the new revenue forecast.
