Two Workers Treated After Chlorine Leak At Geismar Chemical Plant

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is reporting a chlorine leak took place this morning at Geismar chemical plant.

Officials say they received a call around 5 a.m. reporting the smell of chlorine at Air Liquide facility on Highway 30. Reports say crews were able to contain the leak in under an hour.

Five workers were evaluated by medical personnel at the scene, and two of them were taken to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation is underway to determine the source of the leak. Ascension parish Sheriff Bobby Webre says the public was never in danger.
