The murder rate is continuing to rise in Louisiana's capital city area.

With just over three weeks left in the year, at least 82 homicides have occurred in East Baton Rouge Parish, three of them within a 24-hour period ending late yesterday morning. That's when Brian Allen Cook of Kyle, Texas, who arrived in town late last month on a work-related project, was found shot to death inside an abandoned home.

Meantime, authorities say Baton Rouge business owner Kevin Dukes was arrested yesterday after he allegedly shot and killed 55-year-old Julius Thomas Sr. in a dispute over money and then dumped his tarp-wrapped body on South Flannery Street early Tuesday night.
