NHC Watching Area Of Showers In Caribbean

The National Hurricane Center is keeping an eye on an area of showers and thunderstorms over the southwestern Caribbean Sea for possible further development.

As the system moves towards the north, it has a low chance of strengthening by the end of the week. For now, it is not a potential threat to the Gulf Coast.

Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Leslie continues to churn in the central Atlantic and is expected to reach hurricane status either tonight or on Wednesday.

While Leslie is not a direct threat to land, large swells generated by the system will continue. Forecasters warn those could impact parts of the southeastern coast of the United States, Bermuda and the Bahamas during the next few days and the coasts of New England and Canada by the end of the week.
