Entergy Trying To Recoup Unpaid Bills From 2016 Floods

Entergy is seeking a surcharge on electric bills to recoup the $5.9 million it lost in August 2016 from customers who didn't pay bills due to the floods in Baton Rouge.

Five days after the flooding, the Louisiana Public Service Commission issued three orders banning utilities and water companies from charging late fees in areas impacted by the flood and preventing them from shutting off service for non-payment.

The PSC also allowed for revenues to be collected during the time the orders were in place.

About 468,000 customers in 20 parishes could see the surcharges if they're approved.
