Baton Rouge native and LSU grad Stuart Kyle Duncan is headed to a seat on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals that's based in New Orleans.

He narrowly won confirmation by the U.S. Senate Wednesday, winning favor from only one Democrat in the chamber.

“This is a wonderful moment for Kyle and his family, but it’s an even better moment for Louisiana and our country,” said Senator Bill Cassidy. “Kyle is the first federal appeals judge from Louisiana confirmed under President Trump, and he’s a top-notch lawyer who is committed to defending the Constitution. I’m glad he will soon take his seat on the bench.”

Liberal groups and Democrats had fought against his confirmation because of his conservative record.
