Preliminary Cause Of Death In Officer-Involved Shooting Released

The East Baton Rouge Coroner has released the preliminary cause of death in a Monday night shooting involving a Baton Rouge Police officer.

Dr. "Beau" Clark has ruled 24-year-old Calvin Toney's cause of death a homicide due to a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Toney was shot at the Palms Apartments on McClelland Drive after getting into an altercation with the officer who was escorting a DCFS case worker. State Police are investigating.

"I ask that the community withhold judgement on this incident until the LSP concludes its work," East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said in a statement.
