Principal Accused Of Locking Student In Closet Surrenders

A Baton Rouge principal accused of locking a child in a closet has surrendered to police.

Shafeeq Sayid Shamsid-Deen was booked into the jail Friday on charges of cruelty to a juvenile and false imprisonment.

Shamsid-Deen was suspended from Laurel Oaks Charter School after teachers say they heard a five-year-old screaming from inside a closet.

The girl says Shamsid-Deen told her there were spiders in the closet, and threatened to turn off the lights if she made any noise.

WBRZ News 2 reported that Shamsid-Deen was free Friday night after posting bond.
