Several Gulf Oil Platforms Evacuated In Advance Of Cindy's Arrival

Several Gulf of Mexico oil platforms are shut down and personnel have been evacuated.

Don Briggs, president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, said the move is a basically a routine preventive safety measure in preparation for the arrival of nasty weather systems such as Tropical Storm Cindy.

40 platforms and one oil rig have been evacuated. Briggs says for the time being, the decision puts the brakes on 17% of gulf based oil and gas production.
