Residents and activists are suing St. James Parish for permitting increased production at a local methanol plant.

The lawsuit claims parish officials failed to follow their own land use ordinance when permitting the expansion of the industrial project. On that basis, it asks the court to vacate the permitting decision.

A judge heard their complaints on Monday concerning the plant, which has been in operation since 2018.
