A bill requiring the state's Medicaid program to cover treatment for symptoms of menopause and perimenopause is on its way to the full House.

The House Committee on Health and Welfare approved House Bill 392 on Monday by a vote of 12-0.

Rep. Aimee Freeman, a New Orleans Democrat, drafted the bill.

She says it only affects Medicaid, since private insurance plans already cover those treatments.
