A state of emergency is in effect in Louisiana because of the cold front.

Gov. Jeff Landry signed an executive order on Friday declaring the emergency because of anticipated severe winter weather conditions.

The National Weather Service says the low temps and wind chills will linger from now until Wednesday in central and northern Louisiana.

Landry said people should prepare for the cold conditions and take the advice of local officials.

He added road crews are on standby to keep the roads open.
