New BRPD Chief Assumes Office Next Tuesday

Thomas Morse, the new chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department, will officially assume his position next Tuesday.

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome stated Morse's starting date of January 16 during her State of the City Report on Wednesday.

Broome also pointed out that both fatal and non-fatal shootings are down in the city over the past two years.

She stated that the Baton Rouge Police Department has a goal to hire 50 more officers in 2024.
