A Republican state representative says he'll propose a bill next year to get rid of the training course required by law to obtain a concealed carry permit.

Rep. Danny McCormick of Shreveport has said before that he plans to introduce the bill every year until it passes.

A five-year permit costs about $280 or around $500 for a lifetime permit.

McCormick says that keeps low-income people from being able to defend themselves.

Gov.-Elect Jeff Landry, who takes office in January, says he approves of the idea.
