An artificial reef in Lafourche Parish is expected to shore up Louisiana's coast and help local fishermen.

Work crews finished installing the Pelican Island Reef on Tuesday at a former island site in Timbalier Bay.

The new reef is made of something called Cajun coral, created by a Louisiana company named Danos.

The reef is expected to provide habitat for fish and oysters, which will benefit both recreational and commercial fishermen.
