Livingston Parish voters are extending a property tax that funds local libraries.

The Prop 10 Mills Renewal was approved in Saturday's election by the narrowest of margins. Out of more than 18,000 votes cast, the proposal passed by 168 votes, a fraction of a percentage point.

Voters approved an existing 10-year, 10-mill tax that supports the Livingston Parish Library System.

Officials say the tax generates about $6 million a year and provides more than 95 percent of the library system's budget.
