Funeral arrangements are pending for a Baton Rouge Fire Department captain who passed away over the weekend.

The fire department says Capt. William "C.J." Sanders, 54, died of cancer on Sunday night.

Officials say Sanders developed a type of cancer that's assumed to have been caused by his work as a firefighter.

Sanders had been with the Baton Rouge Fire Department since August 1998.
