A man is in custody after trying to rob tenants at a Baton Rouge apartment complex before they found out he didn't really have a gun.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department says 45-year-old Reginald Millican pulled a fire alarm at a complex on Airline Highway and then tried to rob the tenants as they left their apartments.

Millican reportedly approached the residents with his hand in his pocket, pretending to have a gun.

When they realized he was unarmed, the tenants beat him up and held him until police arrived.

Millican is jailed on charges of terrorizing and fire prevention interference.
