U.S. Congressman Steve Scalise says House Republicans are dealing with a number of internal problems.

At an election event in Metairie on Saturday night, the Louisiana Republican said the GOP's internal divisions kept him from becoming House Speaker after he won the nomination last week.

Scalise says a small group of people insist on voting for their guy for Speaker and nobody else.

Once Scalise withdrew from the race, conservative Jim Jordan from Ohio was nominated for Speaker.
