A requested recount in the Livingston Parish sheriff's race may happen this week.

The Louisiana Secretary of State's Office says Sheriff Jason Ard narrowly won reelection by 115 votes over challenger Brett McMasters, with more than 35,000 votes cast.

A member of the McMasters campaign asked for a recount.

Election officials say the recount will only involve paper ballots cast during absentee and early voting, which amounts to about 2,000 votes.

Louisiana law requires the person asking for a recount to pay for it.
