The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board has a vacant seat after the abrupt resignation of one of its members.

Katie Kennison sent the other board members an e-mail on Sunday that said, "Dear all, I quit."

Kennison, a Democrat, was elected in December and sworn in to represent District 8 the following month.

Over the past two-months, she's called on Superintendent Sito Narcisse to resign and stated she didn't think the school system could keep its students safe.

After naming a replacement for Kennison, the board will set a special election to fill her term, which expires at the end of 2026.
