Local water utilities are asking Baton Rouge area residents to conserve water because of the record demand on water systems.

East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome says the water conservation request comes from the Baton Rouge Water Company, the Ascension Parish Company, and the Parish Water Company.

Residents are requested to water their lawns between 4 and 7 a.m., and avoid watering between 5 and 9 p.m., and also avoid wasting water by making sure sprinklers aren't causing unnecessary runoff.
