Crews have recovered a body in the search for a missing swimmer in the Amite River.

Officials in Central say first responders were called to the river Wednesday evening when the swimmer jumped from a railroad trestle and did not resurface.

The body was found on Thursday.

Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran said the department tries to discourage people from jumping off the trestle, and called the situation "unfortunate."
