The fire at a chemical facility in Iberville Parish last weekend burned for almost a day and a half before it was fully extinguished.

According to Dow Chemical, the blaze at the plant in Plaquemine lasted for close to 33 hours until crews completely put it out Sunday morning.

The company said the fire started in a unit with chemicals meant for products like antifreeze and polyester fibers.

Residents living near the facility were under a shelter in place order for about six hours after the fire started, but state officials say the air quality in the area has not been affected.
