The Baker school district is considering a big raise for its teachers, but the tradeoff would be the closure a school.

The proposed $11,000 pay hike would make the difference between a starting pay of $41,000 a year and $52,000.

The idea is mainly to retain existing teachers, since their numbers would be reduced from 77 to about 58, and the district would close one of its four schools.

The school board considers the plan in June.
