A St. Bernard man is sentenced to five years in federal prison for student aid fraud.

The Department of Justice says 48-year-old Robert John conspired with others to submit fraudulent applications for student loans and grants to two local community colleges.

John reportedly used the names of seven different applicants, some of whom weren't qualified because they lacked high school diplomas or GEDs.

The Department of Education paid more than $74,000 in loan and grant funds in response to the bogus applications.
