A ten-month moratorium on development in Ascension Parish is at its end, but homebuilders are proceeding with caution.

During the moratorium, parish leaders changed the land development code, increasing the drainage standards and requiring traffic impact studies.

The traffic studies must be done during the school year, so some construction will have to wait till summer is over.

An executive with the Homebuilders Association of Greater Baton Rouge says the delays will make new homes more expensive.
