A number of school districts in southeastern Louisiana are opting out of the mask mandate.

The districts of Ascension Parish, St. Helena Parish, West Baton Rouge, West Feliciana Parish, and the Central Community School System will no longer require their students or staff to wear masks.

Gov. John Bel Edwards lifted the statewide mask mandate as of today, except for schools.

But he said school districts may opt-out of requiring masks if they follow quarantine guidelines from the CDC.

Masks may still be required on school buses.
